Transport of heavy chlorinated hydrocarbons in the atmosphere.

چکیده
Fluxes of aerosol polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB, 54% chlorine mixture) ranging from 2 X lov9 to 9 X (average: 3 X g m-2 day-l were measured a t La Jolla, Calif., during February and October 1972. A model for mesoscale aerosol transport which treats the plume as a superposition of Gaussian-shaped puffs diffusing isotropically in the plane of the horizon was used with the assumption that deposition occurs irreversibly to compute source strength, aerosol halflife, and isopleths of deposition flux. Hourly wind velocity and daily deposition flux measurements made during a one-month period were used to calibrate the model, and a second month of data provided a check for the predictive capacity of the method. On the basis of flux measurements and model calculations, arguments are presented for most dry deposition of aerosol PCB introduced into the troposphere to occur within 100 km of the source.

Pilot scale study of Co-Fe-Ni nanocatalyst for CO hydrogenation in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis
In this work, a Co-Fe-Ni catalyst was prepared and the effect of a range of operational variables such as gas hourly space velocity (GHSV), calcination temperature, calcination time and agent on its catalytic performance for green-fuels production was investigated. By application of different characterization techniques such as XRD, BET, TGA/DSC, and SEM, it was found that these parameters have...
متن کاملTransport of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in a Calcareous Wetland Soil
Knowledge of transport and degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is important in assessing PAH contamination of soils and water resources. The transport of naphthalene, anthracene, pyrene and phenanthrene was determined in a contaminated calcareous soil obtained from the Shadegan wetland (Khozestan, Iran) considering a column study in laboratory conditions. The PAHs were added ...
متن کاملKinetic Analysis and Pollutant Evolution during Thermal Degradation of Printed Circuit Boards Considering the Effect of Metals
A kinetic study has been carried out by thermogravimetry in order to compare the thermal behavior of printed circuit boards of mobile phones before and after the removal of the metallic fraction. Experiments were performed in nitrogen atmosphere (pyrolysis runs) as well as in an oxidative atmosphere (10% and 20% oxygen in nitrogen). Several dynamic and dynamic + isothermal runs have been carrie...
متن کاملRates and Routes of Transport of PCBs in the Environment
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are one member of a class of chlorinated organic compounds which give rise to concern, because of their wide dispersal and persistence in the environment and tendency to accumulate in food chains, with possible adverse effects on animals at the top of the food webs, including man. In the past, attention has been concentrated on chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticides...
متن کاملFormation of Chlorinated Hydrocarbons in Weathering Plant Material
When we think of chlorine, we often relate it to the salt used in food preparation, chloride in the oceans, chlorine gas from swimming pools, and gaseous chlorofluorocarbons that have close links to the depletion of stratospheric ozone. We rarely think of thousands of chlorinated hydrocarbons that exist in the natural systems, several of which are highly toxic to humans (1). The C-Cl bond, comm...
